ICID awards Iran for watershed management efficiency

LAHORE – The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) awarded the Islamic Republic of Iran a plaque of honor for its significant achievements in irrigation, drainage, and watershed management, IRINN reported on Saturday.
The ICID selected Iran as the exemplary nation out of the 106 participants for attaining self-sufficiency in implementation of watershed management projects and appreciated its active presence in related international seminars.Iran obtained the title while the U.S., Britain, Australia, Morocco, South Africa, and China were other nominees for the award.
Iran chaired the financial committee of the ICID and was named the host of the event in 2011.
The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was established on June 24, 1950 as a scientific, technical and voluntary not-for-profit non-governmental international organization (NGO) with headquarters in New Delhi, India.
The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fiber for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques
